Juntae TeeJay Hwang

Juntae TeeJay Hwang (b. 1991) is an artist/educator/activist predominantly working in performance within sculptural video installation, in addition to painting and ceramics.

By engaging with the idea of escapism, TeeJay aims to challenge and question the strict narrative of normative trends relating forms of activism within modern western hierarchical structures.

Escaping into imagined dystopic and “wild” realms opposed with celebratory performance, installation, 3D rendering and neotenic imageries, TeeJay aims to present vulnerability and indomitability simultaneously.

He draws upon how prejudice against factors such as race, sexuality, and class cross paths; drastically affecting one’s position as a being within a border.

TeeJay holds a B.A. from Slade School of Fine Art, UCL London and an M.F.A from Columbia University.
