ArtCorps Mentoring
Observational Pieces
Students and mentors went on walks around their neighborhoods or collected objects from their homes that they found interesting. They were prompted to complete observational pieces of the objects.
Cyanotypes
After completing the observational pieces, they used the same objects to create cyanotypes or sun prints.
Identity Pieces
Students and mentors discussed identity, what it means to them, and the various identities they hold. They created pieces that explored their own identities through any medium.
Photography
Continuing the discussion on identity, mentors that practice photography shared their work with the group. Everyone was prompted to capture various ideas, themes, or words through photography. The prompts were: Red, High, Low, Eyes, Broken, Three, Edge, Texture, Food, and Someone or Something You Love.
Blackout Poetry
Panama Soweto presented poetry with the students and shared some of his work. Mentors and students created poetry from existing text, or blackout poems.
Additional Works
This includes any pieces students have been working on throughout the Summer and Fall outside of the weekly activities.
