RPMBS Interview with Reach Core Artist Kesiena Sebeni

Three of our Reach Core Artists were recently interviewed by Rocky Mountain PBS to highlight their artistic careers and achievements.

The first interview featured Matt Maes, which you can read here >

This week, we’re excited to highlight our youngest Reach Core Artist: Kesiena Sebeni!

When Sebeni’s not at the Community Studio at RedLine, she’s hard at work earning her degree in biology, with a focus on environmental science.

Her art is rich with bright colors, which she says is inspired by the vibrant clothing found in her mother’s Indian culture and her father’s Nigerian culture. She also shares that her love for painting finds roots in her spiritual practice of Hinduism, as she believes creativity is one of the most important ways to nurture the chakras.

Sebeni gave a big shoutout to RedLine’s Reach Program, which has allowed her to advance her arts career and find a supportive community.

“Seeing other artists telling me stories...some of them have been homeless, some of them have gone through mental health, drug addictions. It’s really helped me understand that we’re just human and life can be hard sometimes. But anybody can get out there and make a name for themselves if they just suddenly think to themselves, ‘Hey, you know what? I deserve better.’

Meet Reach Core Artist Matt Maes

As someone who was diagnosed with high-functioning Autism at the age of 18, Maes emphasizes the importance of art in healing and how vital it is for humans to have an outlet to express themselves.

Maes attributes a some of his success as an artist to the guidance he found through his time in RedLine’s Reach program.
